Sydney to Brisbane - Pacific Coast Touring Route


DAY 1: SYDNEY TO HUNTER VALLEY (205KM/2HRS)
From Sydney, start your drive by heading North over the Sydney Harbour Bridge,
using the Pacific Highway. At Gosford, you can visit the Australian Reptile Park.
Take the Sydney Newcastle Freeway and turn off to Cessnock. At the Hunter,
you can go wine & cheese tasting and get an exclusive certificate in wine
appreciation, you can opt for a vineyards tour on a horse & carriage ride, soar
aloft in a hot air balloon, or cycle around the wine region, a good way to see the
area, or you can even choose to tee off at Cypress Lakes Golf Course!

DAY 2: HUNTER VALLEY TO PORT STEPHENS (150KM/1HR 30MIN)
Take the New England Highway through Maitland to Morpeth. Take a stopover at Morpeth and walk around the town to uncover the wonderful collection of arts, antiques and crafts boutiques, or simply have a coffee break at one of the sidewalk cafes. Head back to New England Highway in the direction of Newcastle, and then onto Pacific Highway at the intersection. Turn into Tomago Rd and drive towards Williamtown. From Williamtown, take Nelson Bay Rd, which leads directly to Port Stephens. You can opt for a 4WD sand dune tour, experience the thrill of sand boarding down giant sand dunes, hop onto a dolphin/ whale watching cruise, go golfing, or visit the Oakvale Farm and cuddle a real life koala or feed a kangaroo! There’s also the Toboggan Hill Park where you can try the fun toboggan run - a thrilling ride though the bush!

DAY 3: PORT STEPHENS TO PORT MACQUARIE (259KMS/3HRS)
On leaving Port Stephens, follow the road signs which will lead you to Forster/ Tuncurry and then onto Port Macquarie. Take a break at the Port’s ocean beaches. You can also visit the Koala Hospital and the Rainforest Centre here.

DAY 4: PORT MACQUARIE TO COFFS HARBOUR (160KMS/2 HRS 12 MINS)
Take the Pacific Highway and head towards Coffs Harbour. Detour to Bellingen - a pretty country town with interesting shops. After this, head for Dorrigo. Detour to the World Heritage Listed Dorrigo National Park and take a refreshing nature’s walk. The Park offers forest/ ocean views, guided walks, birds & waterfalls walking tracks. Back track, take the Pacific Highway towards Coffs Harbour. Coffs Harbour offers white water rafting, superb diving locations, great fishing grounds and even tandem skydiving! You can also choose to go golfing at the world-class Bonville Golf Course, or go car racing with your friends at the Raleigh International Raceway and Roundup. For more laid back activities, you can catch porpoise performances at the Pet Porpoise Pool or head out for a ride through the horticultural vegetation of the Big Banana Theme Park.

DAY5: COFFS HARBOUR TO TWEED HEADS (315KM/3HRS 20MIN)
Take the Pacific Highway to Byron Bay. On the way to Byron some distance away, you can choose to stop over for a break either at the graceful old country town of Grafton or the fishing town of Ballina. In Ballina, visit the Thursday Plantation, there are factory tours from 11am - 2pm, entry is free and the range of tea-tree and natural beauty produced here are astonishing. Take a lunch break at Byron Bay - laid out by glorious stretches of beaches. Here, you can go surfing, hang-gliding, sip your coffee at the sidewalk cafe while peoplewatching, and then have a sample of Byron’s vibrant nightlife in the evening. A must visit is the picturesque Cape Byron Light House, the most easterly point of Australia, where the first sunlight shines. For those who want to pamper themselves... try the relaxing day spa at Jasmine House. They have wraps, massages, hydro-spa and aromatherapy. Definitely a great way to unwind. Take the Pacific Highway to Tweed Heads.

DAY 6: TWEED HEADS TO GOLD COAST HINTERLAND (26KM/30 MINS)
Go on the award winning Catch-A-Crab-Cruise, where you fish and dine on your own freshly caught mudcrabs! Pick your own fresh fruits at the Tropical Fruit World, a plantation that boasts over 500 varieties of tropical and rare fruit. From Tweed Heads, continue driving towards Coolangatta and then onto Gold Coast, which is some one-hour’s drive away. The Gold Coast offers theme parks, great beaches, nightlife, shopping and dining experiences.

DAY 7: GOLD COAST TO BRISBANE (78KMS/1 HOUR 20 MINS)
Depart Gold Coast and head to Queensland’s capital – Brisbane.
